CIRLA Fellows will have a strong system of support to
successfully complete the program, and to help develop a network of
lifelong professional friendships and colleagues. Support is made available
to Fellows in a variety of ways.
Financial Support
Full-time library school students will be offered a part-time (20-hour
per week), paid ($14.00 per hour) para-professional position at one
of seven participating CIRLA Libraries.
Part-time Library school students who are also full-time employees
of CIRLA Libraries will receive varying levels of support--depending
on the policies of the policies of their institutions--that might include
such things as tuition assistance or release time to attend classes.
Educational Support
All Fellows will participate in the Work Curriculum to give hands-on
work experience in key areas of the profession.
All Fellows will be able to create customized 'elective' work experiences
that match professional interests within any of the nine CIRLA libraries.
All Fellows will receive the support of trained mentors and other
staff at the library where they are employed. The mentoring is designed
to support Fellows in the successful completion of their graduate programs,
and take advantage of the full range of opportunities offered through
the program.
Professional Support
All Fellows will receive funding to attend one national professional
conference of their choice.
All Fellows will be given release time to attend ARL training opportunities.
All Fellows will be able to network with highly respected and influential
leaders in research libraries.
All Fellows are guaranteed a one-year, paid, post-MLS professional
position in a participating CIRLA library to jump-start a career as
an academic or research librarian.
