CIRLA Fellows will have a strong system of support to successfully complete the program, and to help develop a network of lifelong professional friendships and colleagues. Support is made available to Fellows in a variety of ways.

Financial Support

Full-time library school students will be offered a part-time (20-hour per week), paid ($14.00 per hour) para-professional position at one of seven participating CIRLA Libraries.

Part-time Library school students who are also full-time employees of CIRLA Libraries will receive varying levels of support--depending on the policies of the policies of their institutions--that might include such things as tuition assistance or release time to attend classes.

Educational Support

All Fellows will participate in the Work Curriculum to give hands-on work experience in key areas of the profession.

All Fellows will be able to create customized 'elective' work experiences that match professional interests within any of the nine CIRLA libraries.

All Fellows will receive the support of trained mentors and other staff at the library where they are employed. The mentoring is designed to support Fellows in the successful completion of their graduate programs, and take advantage of the full range of opportunities offered through the program.

Professional Support

All Fellows will receive funding to attend one national professional conference of their choice.

All Fellows will be given release time to attend ARL training opportunities.

All Fellows will be able to network with highly respected and influential leaders in research libraries.

All Fellows are guaranteed a one-year, paid, post-MLS professional position in a participating CIRLA library to jump-start a career as an academic or research librarian.
